The ideal patient for neck liposuction is somebody who has a great deal of elasticity of the skin and has fullness beneath the chin and lower jaw area. This is fullness that you just cannot get rid of even after exercise.
In this situation, a very small incision is made just below the chin and the neck crease. If jaw liposuction is being done, then two separate small stab incisions are made in the crease near the earlobes.
Conservative liposuction is then performed and that helps to remove some of fatty tissue. The changes from liposuction will continue to improve for approximately three to six months after the procedure.
A question we get at the office is if you can get facial or skin discoloration following a fat transfer?
Anytime you make an incision or do anything in the face, you can always get an inflammatory response or hyperpigmentation.
During a fat transfer, you are placing fat underneath the skin, often under the eyes. We will often do a fat repositioning procedure during a blepharoplaty. The advantage of this procedure include the prevention and/or improvement of the tear-trough deformity and treatment of the herniated orbital fat.
If hyperpigmentation occurs after this procedure, then it can be treated with a bleaching cream called hydroquinone.
A facelift is rejuvenating, it can make the person appear younger and look very natural. The goal of a facelift is to reposition the tissue in the vertical position so the patient has a natural look.
In addition, you want to be able to elevate the mid face, which is the cheek area, the jowls, and the neck altogether. If you adjust the lower face, which is the jowls and neck, to the mid face, but do not elevate the mid face, you will have something called lateral sweep. The lateral sweep is a tightened jaw-line on the inferior aspect, with a fallen mid face just above that creates unusual look.
When doing a facelift you need to address the neck muscles while tightening the lower face and mid face muscles and then reposition these muscles and elevate then to a natural position where they used to be.
According to Dr. Nassif, some people come into the office wanting a small facelift for the jowl and neck area. I do not recommend a small facelift, or a facelift that focuses on simply lifting the loose skin. I think that you cannot get natural results or long-lasting results with this procedure.
A Fraxel Laser can be a noninvasive way to help to remove wrinkles, acne scars and age spots from a patient’s face or hands.
With this type of laser treatment, you are leaving the outer layer of the skin alone, while building up the elastin and collegen in the skin. While some results are immediately visable, overall improvement can be seen in two to thee months.
For most issues a series of three to five Fraxel Laser sessions are need for an effective treatment regimen. These sessions should be spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart.
Radiesse is a filler that you can inject medially and get great results in the nasolabial folds around the nose and mouth. But there are several fillers that can work well in this area.
You can use Juvaderm, Scultpra and Restylane, as well as Radiesse, to treat the nasolabial folds. These injectable fillers give patients immediate results and help to soften the look of lines and wrinkles.
Depending on the injectable, the results can last any where from three to six months.
We get many questions about whether Restylane or Juvederm can be injected in the chin. We can inject all types of injectable fillers, whether it is Radiesse, Restylane or Juvederm in the face. It can also be performed and made to look like a chin implant whether it is at the chin or at the prejowl area, which is just adjacent to the chin.
You can also apply fillers at the cheek bone. These fillers can also be used in the tear-troughs, which is area of hollowness below your eyes. Injectables also can be used in the brow area.
These procedures can cause some swelling and bruising. However, the appearance of the area often looks good in about 24 hours, sometimes even sooner.
Botox is great at softening of the platysmal banding or the muscle lines that run vertically up and down the neck. These muscles start to sag especially as we age.
Sometimes when you have horizontal creases or lines in the neck, Botox can be used to soften the look of them. In the neck area, sometimes a larger dose of Botox can be used if the muscle is long and relatively strong
Often, before neck lift surgery I will treat the platysmal muscles with Botox. This can help the healing process by having the muscles inactive and not moving while the newly stitched together muscles are healing.
On avereage. Botox in the neck can last about three months.
