Radiesse is what is called a volumizing filler or a dermal filler. The goal of Radiesse and other fillers is to replenish volume in the face due to lost collagen, which is caused by the environmental factors and aging. Radiesse can be administered safely and quickly in less than an hour, and one can then return to normal activities without side effects. The skin softening and wrinkle reducing effects of Radiesse have been reported to last up to a year.

There are numerous rumors of A-list celebs using Radiesse as a means to manage the signs of aging perhaps to put their careers back on track. The use of dermal fillers is still on the rise and figures show that it is gaining ground on popular injectables such as Botox and Dysport. By the end of this year usage of dermal fillers is expected to top 2 million annually.

Radiesse is made up of tiny microspheres that are calcium-based and held in a water-based gel suspension. One of the greatest advantages of Radiesse over other fillers is that it not only fills in problem areas but also aids in the body’s own production of collagen. Something else that patients love is that results are visible immediately after treatments and patients report effects that can last up to a year.

Radiesse is available in different quantities in order to treat whatever specific concerns patients have. This makes it cost effective and convenient. For patients who are worried about pain or discomfort, the FDA has approved a Radiesse and lidocaine mixture that reduces the number of injections necessary while providing both the results of Radiesse with the pain relief of lidocaine.

Patients should speak with a cosmetic medical provider if they are interested in Radiesse for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles. An in person consultation may not always be necessary, but it is the best way for a Radiesse provider to determine whether one is a good candidate for any cosmetic treatments.

Dysport treatments consist of a short series of injections that can be finished in as little as 10 minutes and require no downtime. Dysport is available for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles like frown lines, smile lines and crows feet caused by repetitive motion of the muscles under the skin of the face, leading to a loss in elasticity, stretched skin, and facial sag.

Dysport blocks signals that travel from nerves to the muscles and the subsequent movements that cause fine lines and wrinkles. Fine lines and wrinkles fade during the time Dysport remains in effect. For the 3 month (average) time period that Dysport remains in effect, the treated skin has the time to heal and repair itself leading to softer and smoother wrinkle free skin.

Dysport VS Botox

People often draw comparisons between Dysport and Botox, which is the closest relative of Dysport. Indeed the two treatments work using the same derived protein, called Botulinum toxin Type A, which is the active ingredient that blocks nerve activity to paralyze the muscles causing wrinkles. Dysport is the newer treatment and was FDA approved as a wrinkle treatment in the US in 2009, while Botox was FDA approved and introduced in 2002. Some studies have showed that Dysport may take effect faster. This is possibly due to a selection of smaller proteins. Dysport can be slightly cheaper, although the price difference is nothing significant.

Patients who are sensitive to Botox will likely be sensitive to Dysport as well. Patients with sensitive skin or those who are concerned can ask for a local anesthetic. For most patients, an ice pack may provide sufficient relief for injections. Talk to your cosmetic provider if you are interested in using Dysport for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles. Prescription Dysport is only available from licensed medical cosmetic providers.

As the body ages, hyaluronic acid (HA) and collagen (the substances responsible for youthful skin and volume) cannot be produced as fast as the body uses them. This directly results in a gradual decline in the quality of the skin. The results of lost HA and collagen along with the repeated movements of muscles lead to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles, including crow’s feet, lip lines and smile lines. Juvederm is what is known as a cosmetic dermal filler, which is introduced to the skin to replace lost collagen and HA.

Juvederm VS Botox

Juvederm is often lumped in with products like Botox and Dysport because they are meant to treat the same conditions but they are actually a very different method of treatment. Botox and Dysport are chemical injections derived from botulinum toxin Type A and work by stopping signals from reaching the muscles. This restricts small muscles from moving and allows the skin above to rest, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The paralytic effects of these treatments can last up to 4 months before the muscles regain mobility and fine lines and wrinkles reform as muscles begin moving again.

Juvederm is one of several products that cosmetic providers refer to as dermal fillers. Juvederm is an FDA Approved dermal filler designed to replace the naturally occurring agents, HA and collagen, in the lower layers of skin that provide volume and shape to the face. While Botox may take several days to produce effects, the effects of Juvederm are often seen immediately following treatment and have been reported as lasting as long as one year. Not only can Juvederm fill in fine lines and wrinkles, it is also commonly used as a method of adding volume to the lips.

Patients generally handle Juvederm treatments with ease. For those who have a low threshold for pain, Juvederm can be administered with an anesthetic. Juvederm is commonly mixed with lidocane to ease discomfort. This blend provides adequate pain relief while offering the same dramatic reduction in fine lines and wrinkles or voluminous and supple lips.

Liposuction is one of the most popular and most often performed plastic surgeries in the US today. Using a variety of surgical techniques, cosmetic surgeons are capable of reducing the fatty deposits in a number of areas. Some of the most common areas of treatment include the fat stores in the buttocks, hips, thighs, abdomen, arms, and back.

Expected Results

In California medical guidelines prevent surgeons from removing more than 5 liters from one patient in any single surgery. Some surgeons are willing to remove even less due to health safety concerns. 5 liters is a measurement of volume rather than weight but it equates to roughly 10-11 pounds of fat on average. Patients often underestimate the difference even a relatively small procedure removing only a few pounds can make, and liposuction surgeons are often more concerned with keeping the body in balance rather than removing as much fat as possible. Plastic surgery is as much of an art as it is a science. A good surgeon will keep the lines of communication wide open and make sure that the patient has a clear idea of exactly what the goal of liposuction surgery will be, as well as making sure the patient knows what they can realistically expect.

Liposuction surgery is performed by using a tool uniquely designed for the procedure called a cannulae. The cannulae is a hollow metal tube that the surgeon will use to suction away the fatty tissue that is then collected into a fat reservoir and measured. The volume of fat taken is monitored to assure the safety of the patient. The location and the amount of fat being removed are both factors in the length of each surgical procedure, which will be part of determining the cost. Areas such as the abdominals that are easy to access can generally be treated more quickly than areas like the inner thighs, which are more difficult to access and must be handled more delicately. Some liposuction surgeries may be completed in as little as a half an hour, while other more complicated liposuctions may require 2 hours or more. More complicated procedures may also require larger operating rooms to accommodate a larger staff and at times an anesthesiologist if the patient will need general anesthesia. While longer more complicated liposuction surgery may require general anesthesia many less extensive liposuction surgeries can be administered using only local anesthesia. Patients experience little if any discomfort.

Recovery From Liposuction

When recovering from any liposuction surgery patients are advised to follow the advice of their surgeon as closely as possible. After surgery the surgeon will provide several prescriptions for antibiotics as well as painkillers to help patients deal with the discomfort in the first week or so immediately following. Patients will be advised to get plenty of bed rest for the first few days, eat a nutritious diet and drink plenty of water. All medications should be taken as directed and patients should continue to abstain from alcohol, and smoking. Within the first 10 days the surgeon will usually schedule 1-2 follow-ups to remove surgical dressings and advise patients as to whether they may return to work. Strenuous activities and exercise are forbidden well into the second or third month after surgery and may then be eased into per the advice of your surgeon.

The best way to determine whether you are a good candidate for liposuction surgery is to speak with a doctor personally. Schedule a consultation to speak with a liposuction surgeon directly. They will be able to answer more specific questions and address any concerns about liposuction, anesthesia, recovery and expected results.

Liposuction, which also goes by the name lipoplasty and sometimes just lipo, is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure that can use several different techniques to remove fat from a number of areas on the human body. Commonly treated areas include the abdomen, hips, thighs, and buttocks (which are arguably the most common sights for removal); and other areas such as the arms, neck, face, breasts, back and ankles.

How Is Liposuction Performed?

Liposuction is accomplished by using a special tool called a cannulae, which is a hollow tube that liposuction surgeons draw back and forth through the treatment area to slowly suck away fat. The cannulae is attached to a vacuum system and a reservoir that collects the unwanted fatty tissue. The length of the procedure depends on a number of factors. There are a variety of different techniques and each surgeon may have their own specific preferences and opinion on which is the best and the safest. Along with the technique the amount of fat, the size of the area being treated, and the size of the patient will all play into the length of each specific procedure. Some procedures may take as few as 30-40 minutes while others may last 2 hours or more. Every patient and every surgery is different.

Is Liposuction Painful?

During surgery patients will always be given local or general anesthesia and should experience little or no discomfort whatsoever. For less extensive liposuction procedures patients may remain conscious under local anesthesia and may be asked to assist in moving from one side to another when treating multiple areas. The more difficult part is dealing with the swelling and bruising that accompanies the healing process. Patients should expect to remain in bed for at least the first several days, drinking plenty of fluids and adhering to a strict antibiotic regimen, while the healing process can have its share of discomfort, surgeons will provide painkillers to make sure patients can get through this period with as little discomfort as possible. After several days most patients are allowed to return to work and non-strenuous activities with the doctor’s approval.

Is Liposuction Expensive?

There is no way to determine exactly how much a specific procedure will cost until after it has been performed and lists that show how much a procedure costs are often misleading because they only provide the base cost and patients often wind up disgruntled that they are asked to pay far more than the amount on a list. The same factors – including the size of the area being treated, the size of the patient, the amount of fat being removed, and how difficult the area is to access – that determine how long a procedure will take also play into the expenses of any given procedure. Other factors that may determine cost include whether or not the patient has had prior liposuction or plastic surgery procedures in the same area. Previously treated areas may contain masses of scar tissue, which can slow down progress during surgery.

There is no sure fire way to know exactly how long a procedure will take nor the cost, but prospective patients should schedule a consultation with a trusted provider who will be able to determine whether they are a good candidate for liposuction and answer any questions about the procedures they are interested in. In a consultation a liposuction surgeon will be able to provide the most specific details regarding the length of procedures and the price based on each patients specific goals.

Mastopexy is the medical name for a surgery that most of us know as the breast lift. A breast lift attends to sagging breasts that may have lost shape and volume due to weight gain or weight loss, pregnancy and breast-feeding or the normal effects of gravity and aging. A breast lift accomplishes this by reducing and repositioning the skin of the breasts. A breast lift aims to re-contour, raise, firm and tighten the breasts, offering patients more youthful, tight and shapely breasts.

By making a small incision on each breast and then repositioning the skin and carefully reattaching it to provide the best shape a breast lift can achieve the most natural looking results possible. The nipples can be removed and reposition to make sure that the breasts look balanced and even. Patients who worry about a reduction in breast size can speak with their surgeon about the possibility of having a breast lift with implant procedure. This can account for a loss in volume by skin removed during the breast lift and for patients who so desire can provide a significant increase in overall breast size.

How Long Does A Breast Lift Take?

Brest lift surgery itself generally takes around one to three hours, but the recovery process is where patients can do the most to ensure the best results after a procedure. The first step after a procedure for patients to get plenty of rest as directed by their physician. Swelling is usually present for at least 2-3 weeks before it begins to subside and patients are generally given a special compression bra to wear after the surgical dressings are removed. The compression bra will reduce bruising, increase circulation and speed healing. Surgeons generally schedule 3 or more appointments over the next several months starting about a week after the surgery. Patients are advised to maintain a healthy nutrient rich diet low in sodium, drink plenty of water and continue to get plenty of rest. Giving the body adequate care, time, and nutrients will allow the body to heal itself as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Am I A Candidate For A Breast Lift?

Good candidates for breast lift surgery are women who are at least 22-24 and have good physical health and a good height and weight ratio. Patients should be non-smokers or be willing to quit for an extended period of time. Surgeons treat only women who have reached full maturity and some surgeons do not treat patients younger than 22.

Each surgeon sets their own requirements based on state and federal regulations and the best way to know if you are a good candidate is to visit a cosmetic surgeon who specializes in breast lifts and other breast procedures for a personal consultation.

The Nose

Our nose is always with us and is often present in our field of vision. It’s no wonder that the nose is a common source of anxiety for people who feel they are far from having the perfectly chiseled profile. While some people are able to ignore their nose or have no choice, others who have spent their lives feeling trapped behind a nose they hate turn to the help of talented plastic surgeons to help them achieve a more acceptable version of themselves.

Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty surgery, or the nose job, as it is commonly referred to, provides patients the chance to change things like the shape, size or angle of their nose. Surgeons like Dr. Paul Nassif in Beverly Hills have dedicated time and effort to becoming skilled and experienced providers of rhinoplasty surgery. A rhinoplasty surgeon can offer patients the chance to obtain a more perfect nose and the confidence and better body image that often come along with it. Dr. Nassif has become so proficient at rhinoplasty surgery that he also offers revision rhinoplasty services to address the needs of patients whose previous rhinoplasty procedures went poorly or did not meet their expectations.

While it is true that many nose jobs are undertaken to correct for aesthetic concerns alone, a procedure called septoplasty, which is related to rhinoplasty surgery, can cater to patients who have structural and congenital defects. Septoplasty can address problems related to excess skin inside the nose, narrow sinus passages, and obstructed or incomplete nasal passages due to congenital defects.

Is The Doctor Going To Break My Nose?

Many people are fearful of rhinoplasty surgery because they have heard that during a nose job the doctor will break the nose. This is not necessarily true. Depending on the desired results and the condition of the nose, rhinoplasty procedures that can produce remarkable results without breaking the nose may be available.

A surgeon can personally inspect each patient for diagnosis, explain procedures that can be offered for each individual situation, and explain what can be expected. In addition, the surgeon will also be able to provide information on healing time, costs, and recovery. During a consultation, a rhinoplasty specialist will be able to inform patients on surgical procedures that do not break the nose and the benefits of one method relative to another if more than one option is available. Whether nose problems affect physical health or are only cosmetic, meeting a plastic surgeon that specializes in rhinoplasty surgery for a consultation may be the most important step on the road to correcting your nose problems. The internet is a great place to begin research to learn about any medical procedure you may be considering, but there is no substitute for speaking with a trained medical professional who has spent countless years studying and practicing and is an expert on the nose inside and out.

Cities across the US and around the world look to Beverly Hills when searching for the best and the most posh face and body treatments. Beverly Hills is the heart of luxury, fashion and beauty trends in Los Angeles and the western United States. Beverly Hills was one of the first cities in which patients began receiving medically prescribed Botox as a wrinkle treatment ten years ago after FDA approval.

Today, many Beverly Hills medical providers offer Botox and Dysport along with their many other regular cosmetic treatments, in addition to many other new dermal fillers and skin treatments. Botox and Dysport, however, still reign as two of the most practical and most often prescribed treatments for signs of aging like wrinkles and fine lines.

What Is Botox?

Botox and Dysport are both natural, purified proteins produced by Clostridium botulinum bacterium, and are classified as botulinum toxin type A. Botox and Dysport come as liquids that are easily administered to the face by tiny injections using a small needle. Botox and Dysport treatments are used to manage a number of common signs of aging on the face including frown lines, crow’s feet, platysmal bands and bunny lines. Botox and Dysport can take years of the face in a single 10-minute treatment (average).

Much of the support for Botox and Dysport likely comes from the fact that they are nonsurgical products that show dramatic results, can be administered quickly, and there is no recovery time necessary. Patients can see improvements within a few days to a week and the effects often last upwards to 5 or 6 months. Each patient will react differently and so exact results vary from person to person.

Learning More

Botox and Dysport are still two of the most commonly requested procedures at a number of Beverly Hills medical offices and cosmetic boutiques, but Botox and Dysport are available from providers all over the country. For those who are seriously considering Botox or Dysport treatments, a consultation with a provider of prescription only Botox or Dysport can offer a personalized evaluation, determine whether Botox or Dysport is a viable option, and provide the information necessary to make an educated decision.

Question:
I had blepharoplasty nearly two months ago and I still have horrible bruises beneath my eyes. Is this normal? When should they be gone and what can I do in the meantime?

Answer:
Some bruising and swelling after eyelid surgery will be present because the eye area is extremely delicate. The more involved your blepharoplasty surgery was, the more bruising you may experience. The amount of time bruising lasts varies among individuals and it can last up to two to three months. It is important to be patient following your surgery, as the final result will not be evident for some time. Thank you and I hope this helps.
