Liposuction surgery is most successful in patients who are close to their ideal body weight and only need help with a problem area or two. A mini-liposuction is designed to help those who have an even smaller area of concern.  A mini-liposuction will address fat deposits that are 2.5 pounds or less. It will save patients money, time and will take care of small problem areas. Healing and recovery times will also be much shorter.

A mini-liposuction is less about losing weight and more about balancing the body’s proportions. After a mini-liposuction when patients gain or lose weight they body will remain in better proportion thanks to the fat removed from specific areas. A mini-liposuction can be performed to address excess fat on the knees, chest, under arms, neck and upper arms – areas that are more resistant to diet, exercise and weight loss attempts. Other areas commonly addressed by mini-liposuction include the inner and outer thighs, the hips, love handles, buttocks, knees, calves and ankles.

As with a standard liposuction or any other cosmetic surgery ideal patients should meet a few minimum requirements. Patients should be over 18, in good health (both physically and psychologically), have realistic expectations and be non-smokers. Patients who smoke and would like to receive mini-liposuction surgery should be willing to quit smoking for an extended period of time – at least a few months before and after. The doctor will provide a thorough preliminary pre-examination during or shortly after your consultation and will provide specific information on what patients need to do to prepare for their surgery.

Mini-liposuction can be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. Doctors and patients often prefer local anesthesia, because it has been shown to pose fewer risks and complications. Local anesthesia may offer a safer experience while offering the same exceptional results.
