1. First, there are no shortcuts.  Even with referrals, you as the patient should do your own research regarding the doctor.  Education, training, board certification, patient reviews and viewing a potential surgeon’s before & after pictures are important steps in finding the right surgeon.
2. It is important to seek a rhinoplasty specialist, with a special expertise in rhinoplasty. Consider checking to see surgeon you’re considering with the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery;  the world’s largest specialty association for facial plastic surgery and click here to visit the American Board of Otolaryngology.
3. Once you find a doctor with exceptional credentials, the next step is to have a consultation with him/her.  This is where the art meets the science of plastic surgery and rhinoplasty.  There are many algorithms and formulas published throughout the years in plastic surgery textbooks.  However, your nose is unique.  Use your consultation to determine what your surgeon’s aesthetic is – meaning, do they find the same things attractive as you do, and ultimately, do they envision the same nose that you do. 
4. The intangibles are just as important: do you connect with the doctor, does he/she seem passionate about rhinoplasty, does he/she instill confidence in you and make you feel comfortable?  The answer to all these should be a resounding “Yes!”  

Following these guidelines will not eliminate all the risks of surgery, but will ensure that you have the greatest chance for a successful surgery and a beautiful new nose.

undergoing rhinoplasty it is important to consider all aspects of the procedure,
including what you can expect during your immediate recovery period so you can
make an informed decision.

In general, after rhinoplasty you can expect to experience some throbbing pain
and headaches. Most patients who have undergone rhinoplasty only require a
couple of days of a narcotic for pain relief. After that, most report that over-the-
counter pain relievers such as Tylenol are more than sufficient to relieve their
discomfort. The majority of patients are pleasantly surprised how the level of
discomfort is less than expected. Most bruising and swelling will resolve within 7-
10 days after surgery.

The most uncomfortable aspect of the recovery is probably not being able to
breathe through your nose during the first week after surgery. This is due to
swelling from the surgery itself, and sometimes from small silicone splints that
Dr. Nassif and Dr. Yoo place inside the nose to aid the healing process. Nose
blowing should be avoided for the first two weeks, and instead nasal saline
irrigation and sprays should be used to help keep the inside of the nose moist
and clean. As the swelling resolves, your breathing will be dramatically improved
compared to before surgery.

Dr. Nassif and Dr. Yoo see their patients the day after surgery, then one week
after surgery. At the one week post-op visit, the cast and sutures are removed
and a light, nude colored tape is applied. Light cardio exercise may resume 2
weeks after surgery, and full workouts may resume 4 weeks after surgery.

About 3-6 months after your surgery the vast majority of the swelling will have
resolved though your nose may still feel a bit numb. Healing will continue for a
full year after surgery. You’ll also be able to fully appreciate the aesthetic results
of your surgery at this point, which will make the minor discomfort experienced
immediately post-op entirely worth it.

Liposuction is a Weight Loss Tool
Liposuction is not meant to be a weight loss tool, and it will not remove all of the fat from your body. It simply was not designed for this purpose. For you to be an ideal candidate for this procedure, you need to be close to your ideal weight. Liposuction was solely designed to remove unsightly adipose tissues.

The Fat Will Never Come Back
Liposuction is not a permanent weight loss tool. You must stick to a healthy diet and exercise program to keep your weight off. Just as eating too much and not exercising will make an athlete heavy over some time, it will eventually make liposuction patients overweight as well.
