| What is Thermage?
Thermage is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure able to tighten the skin, renew facial contours and produce healthier collagen. With the use of patented radiofrequency (RF) technology known as ThermaCool, thermage smoothes out wrinkles and renews facial contours by tightening and gently lifting the skin. Commonly treated areas include the forehead and brow, the eyes, and the nasolabial folds. This quick, easy procedure is non-surgical, requiring no incisions. Thermage may be performed on patients with all skin types and involves no downtime.

Good candidates for thermage include individuals who are physically healthy, psychologically stable, realistic in their expectations, and interested in looking younger and more refreshed.
In general, thermage tends to work best on patients with thin or medium thickness of the skin and mild to moderate facial wrinkling. Your physician can determine if you are a good candidate for thermage. |
How Does Thermage Work?
With the ThermaCool system, a sophisticated treatment tip called the ThermaTip is used to deliver a controlled amount of RF energy to the treated area. With each touch of the ThermaTip device to the patient's skin, a large volume of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin and its underlying tissue is uniformly heated. At the same time, cooling protects the outer layer of the skin. The deep structures in the skin immediately tighten in response to the uniform heating action. In addition, new and remodeled collagen is produced with time, allowing for further tightening of the skin. The end results is skin that is healthier, smoother, and more youthful looking. Patients may experience a brief, deep heating sensation with each touch of the ThermaTip device. The entire procedure may last anywhere from several minutes to an hour depending upon the size of the treated area.
How long should the results of Thermage last?
Patients will notice that the skin looks and feels tighter, smoother and more youthful immediately after treatment. Additional tightening will occur within the next three to six months. Work and other normal activities can typically be resumed immediately after treatment, and there is typically no special after care required.
Though results will vary from patient to patient, the results of thermage can last up to two or more years. Follow-up treatments may be needed to maintain the results.
* The use of Thermage has been cleared by the FDA.
