Announcer: L.A. , the capital of plastic surgery.
Paul Nassif: _____ and I am the best.
Announcer: Eight self-confessed ugly ducklings are coming from the U.K. to have their looks totally transformed.
Liz Baverstock: The last 15 to 20 minutes of the lipo was hell on earth. Absolute hell.
Announcer: It will be a dramatic journey as the surgeons to the stars utterly transform them in a million dollar makeover.
This is Liz's story. Forty-year-old Liz Baverstock is one of thousands who applied to Brand New You. Liz is desperate for a total body transformation, and wants plastic surgery to change her life.
Liz Baverstock: Physically, there are things about myself that I've wanted to change for a long while. And I think that will help with confidence, definitely. And I think it will just literally give me a whole new beginning.
Announcer: To give Liz the new face and body of her dreams will require many hours of invasive and extreme surgery. Years of stress have wreaked havoc on her looks and prematurely aged her. Childbirth and time have ruined her curves, and left her breasts dropping. Her dumpy figure is down to too much wine and take aways, and no exercise. To create the brand new Liz Baverstock will cost a massive $200,000.
Liz Baverstock: Whites.
Announcer: Liz's world was turned upside down four years ago when her husband dumped her for a much younger woman. She's 40 and sick of being single.
Liz Baverstock: My day-to-day life I would describe as boring, mundane, and something I've never in a million years perceived me reaching. I think that is my biggest fear is that I'm slipping into a comfortable boredom. I come through the door and I've got the dog and the two cats, and there's only so much response you get out of them. You think I'm mad.
Announcer: Liz has a 20-year-old daughter, Becky, who she's relied on since the divorce.
Becky: I've seen my mom change a lot. I feel my mom is desperately lonely, yeah. It does upset me because she really hasn't got well, she's sort of all her friends she's sort of dwindled away. She's sort of in the house 24/7. I think she needs this.
Liz Baverstock: I like it. I mean, I don't think I have enough guts to wear it. But
Announcer: Liz is convinced her looks are putting men off and is desperate for plastic surgery.
Liz Baverstock: You need to have confidence in yourself which I think I've lost now. And I think going is definitely it's off-putting, because I'm so conscious of it, I tend not to make proper face-to-face contact. I want to look like me, but without the worry and the haggard look, definitely.
Announcer: Liz is not the only one who wants to grasp the opportunity of a lifetime.
Female Speaker: Brand New You.
Male Speaker: Why don't you tell me what you don't like about yourself?
Announcer: Over 4,000 applied. Hundreds were interviewed. But finally, only a handful have been selected to undergo the battery of medical and psychological tests required to undergo such extreme surgery. For the last few weeks, Liz and Becky have been on tender hooks waiting to hear if she's been chosen for the radical makeover.
Liz Baverstock: Hello.
Sara: Hello, is that Liz?
Liz Baverstock: It is.
Sara: Hello, Liz. It's Sara .
Liz Baverstock: Hello, Sara.
Sara: How are you doing?
Liz Baverstock: I'm very nervous.
Sara: Oh, yeah? Oh, don't be nervous. We'd love you to come to L.A. and
Liz Baverstock: No! Oh, my God! Oh, Sara, I'm gonna cry. Oh, I don't want to be filmed doing this. Oh, my God!
Sara: Would you like to come?
Liz Baverstock: What do you think my answer is?
Sara: Is that a yes?
Liz Baverstock: Oh, God, yeah. Absolutely. Oh, Christ. I don't know what to do now. I've not packed.
Announcer: Liz is in for the most radical change of her life. In L.A. , the home of plastic surgery, we put together a team of the world's leading cosmetic surgeons. They earn millions by transforming the looks of Hollywood 's rich and famous. They just have one objective, to create the woman Liz has always dreamt of being. Leading our crack team of specialists is one of the world's top facial plastic surgeons, Dr. Paul Nassif.
Paul Nassif: Liz is 40, but she looks 50. She looks tired. Her deep smile lines and her frown line make her look tired and sad.
Liz Baverstock: What I'd like done to my face, and definitely first of all is my frown line. I'd like this certainly this part of my face to just to be pulled. So if you do that, you can see it sort of goes back up into where it should be.
Paul Nassif: No, my goal is to rejuvenate her. Make her alive again. Make her feel good.
Liz Baverstock: Apart from changes to my face, body changes definite is my boobs. I've got quite a good sport bra on at the moment, but they are quite saggy. There's a lot to take away.
Announcer: Transforming her breasts is ground breaking Beverly Hills body surgeon, Dr. Marc Mani.
Marc Mani: My first thoughts on Liz are that she really looks like she's kind of carrying around a couple of bowling balls. I mean, those breasts just look very droopy and heavy. But the good news is we can fix that with a breast lift.
Liz Baverstock: Even when I've lost weight, I still seem to have this little small patch, I suppose, moving down. And then basically it really is cellulite, but I think, again, there's pockets of fat.
Announcer: The man who will be reshaping her body is liposuction's leading light, Dr. David Amron.
David Amron: Her thighs look like they're glued together all the way to her knees. She's got some fullness in her stomach here, also. I'm gonna bring that down with liposuction. I really have to deflate some of these areas on her.
Liz Baverstock: My teeth I've been unhappy since I'm a teenager.
Announcer: Putting a smile back on her face, the world's leading cosmetic dentist, Dr. Bill Dorfman.
Bill Dorfman: Liz is afraid to smile and I don't blame her. If you look at these teeth, they're really crooked and yellow. But in a couple of hours, we'll zoom whiten her teeth, we'll put some porcelain veneers on the upper and lower. She'll have an American smile.
Announcer: Coming up next, Liz arrives in L.A. and takes the first step in changing her life. She goes under the knife as the world's leading surgeons defy gravity and turn back time in a series of extraordinary procedures.
Forty-year-old Liz Baverstock's turned into a recluse after a bitter divorce. She's come to L.A. , the city of dreams, to kick-start her life.
Liz Baverstock: When I woke up, I knew exactly where I was. It was the view. I knew I wasn't in _____. There was no way.
Announcer: The world's top plastic surgeons would radically change her in a $200,000 transformation. It's her first morning in L.A. It's going to be a big day. Liz is going to meet the body surgeons so they can thoroughly examine her and come up with a plan to transform her. Her first appointment is with liposuction specialist Dr. David Amron. He's going to reshape her body.
David Amron: I would say Liz is a very good candidate liposuction. She's got a lot of areas that are out of proportion. Her stomach, her arms are really quite disproportionate. And she's got no shape to her thighs.
Liz, let's take a look at the body. Okay? Come and stand over here. And what I want you to do is go ahead and let's just remove this blue gown. _____ in the back. And let's put this here. Because I really want to look at your overall proportions, okay?
Liz Baverstock: Yeah.
David Amron: And I do think you're full in the hip over here. Go ahead and turn around for me. Okay. _____ a little bit in the hips, the inner thighs, the knees. And go ahead and face me. Some of the lower abdomen over here and the arms. And I think I can make you happy with just liposuction alone over here. You don't necessarily need a tummy tuck procedure.
Announcer: Liz's next stop is across town with one of America 's leading breast surgeons, Dr. Marc Mani.
Marc Mani: Liz's breasts are sagging and that's gravity. And without intervention, there's really only one way for them to go, and that's down. I'm gonna be able to fix that by doing a breast lift. An anchor pattern breast lift is a breast lift that's done by drawing a certain type of pattern on the breast. So the resulting incision is around the nipple and areola with the horizontal portion hidden entirely underneath the breast.
I think what I'd like to do is I'm gonna sit down right here and then have you stand.
Liz Baverstock: Okay. Take it off for _____?
Marc Mani: Yeah.
Liz Baverstock: It's a lot easier for you.
Marc Mani: That's fine. I think that what I would recommend is doing an anchor pattern breast lift and pushing that up like that.
Liz Baverstock: That's a marked improvement.
Marc Mani: That's kind of nice, isn't it?
Liz Baverstock: Yeah.
Marc Mani: That's better. And this one I'd push up even more like that.
Liz Baverstock: Is that the lower of the two?
Marc Mani: This is definitely the lower one and a bit larger, a little wider.
Liz Baverstock: Oh, wow.
Marc Mani: So
Liz Baverstock: My only concern is and no disrespect to the surgeons in Britain , some of the pictures I've seen have been pretty horrific, the anchor scars?
Marc Mani: Right.
Liz Baverstock: And obviously I know they're not gonna be invisible and it is the effect _____ in clothes that I'm after, but I obviously don't want to be really badly scarred.
Joy: I can show on me.
Marc Mani: Right, Joy
Joy: Cause he just did it like two months ago.
Liz Baverstock: Oh, fine. Can I?
Marc Mani: Yeah, Joy had hers done two months ago. So you can see her result.
Joy: Yeah, I'll show you can see the back of me like that. Yeah, so you have all the scars.
Marc Mani: Joy does have a small implant in her, but that's how they look. This she's pretty ideal.
Liz Baverstock: You look fantastic.
Marc Mani: Everybody heals differently. So you should be aware of that.
Joy: You're very fair skinned, so you should heal real nice.
Marc Mani: But you're very fair skinned, so I would anticipate that you'll heal beautifully.
Liz Baverstock: They're fantastic. I'm excited. When can we start?
Marc Mani: Good, good. All right. Well, do we have time in the operating room now? I don't know if we
Liz Baverstock: My breasts. Where do I start? Yeah, it would strike that. I've got to say the best thing he told me was I didn't need implants. He actually said I had good boobs, which if he hadn't said anything else, I don't think anyone's said that in a long while. So most of the guys I've known, I have to say they prefer natural, so fantastic there.
And I'm not silly. I know there's gonna be pain and I know there's gonna be days here that I'm probably gonna think, shit, why did I do this? What a prayer . I'm really stick on that score. That brilliant absolutely. Couldn't _____ just a trim. Absolutely gorgeous. So that's it there. So I just need to go to bed there and that's the end of a perfect day.
Announcer: Today, the surgeons will plan how to transform Liz's face and teeth. Her day will begin on Beverly Hill's version of Harley Street , Spalding Drive . Liz will be examined by Dr. Paul Nassif, one of America 's finest facial plastic surgeons.
Liz Baverstock: I feel very, very privileged to be meeting Dr. Nassif because I have I'm not one of this anorex , I have read up. So I know it is an honor. Even with money, I want to see if he lives up to the hype, really. I'm hoping my face is gonna prove that he does.
Paul Nassif: My initial thoughts about Liz is she looks older than she is. She does have some facial aging. And that all happens with gravity. She'll be a great candidate for surgery because I'm going to rejuvenate her face and make her look fresh, younger, and less sad.
Liz?
Liz Baverstock: Hi.
Paul Nassif: I'm Dr. Nassif.
Liz Baverstock: Nice to meet you.
Paul Nassif: Well, welcome.
Liz Baverstock: Thank you.
Paul Nassif: Scrunch down for me? So here's the muscle, one on each side, that helps create that deep furrow you have here. So we're gonna actually manipulate the muscle and this will help improve this furrow. One, it will elevate the inner part of your eyebrow. Two, it will soften this line. That is the eyes. That right there is going to do wonders for you.
You're a little bit young to have some of this tissue to be a little bit saggy. I want to lift that muscle up. Okay?
Liz Baverstock: Yeah.
Paul Nassif: And we're also gonna tighten the lower part of the neck.
Liz Baverstock: I like that.
Announcer: Dr. Nassif suggests a radical improvement Liz had never thought of, a chin implant.
Paul Nassif: We're gonna bring your chin out, give you a better neckline. Okay? Before, after. Before, after.
Liz Baverstock: I didn't realize how bad I looked until I seen it like that.
Announcer: What she needs to finish off that new face is a set of pearly white teeth.
Bill Dorfman: Hello, Liz.
Liz Baverstock: Hi.
Bill Dorfman: How are you?
Liz Baverstock: I'm fine. I'm glad to see you.
Bill Dorfman: I'm Dr. Dorfman.
Announcer: Her final appointment is with Dr. Bill Dorfman. He's put the smile back into a thousand Hollywood faces.
Bill Dorfman: This is the color I'd like to do. See it's nice and bright. It's not too white. But I think we'll go ahead and we'll bleach your teeth.
Liz told me she's frightened to smile because her teeth are so crooked. They're really not that bad. But she kind of has this tippy look here. Instant orthodontics.
In one week, I can get these teeth perfectly straight, white, matching the rest of your teeth with porcelain veneers.
We'll get her teeth eight shades whiter, and we'll do four porcelain veneers on the upper here and six porcelain veneers on the lower. They'll be perfectly straight.
You come with English teeth. You go home with American teeth.
Announcer: It's Liz's big day. And surgeons Dr. Mani and Dr. Nassif have decided to carry out the breast lift and the face surgery at the same time.
Liz Baverstock: I'm definitely looking forward to what's gonna happen. I'm not looking forward to the first time I see myself after it. Cause I know that's gonna look I'm gonna be hideous looking. So the rest of it I'm fine with. I'm chilled. It's okay. I lied! Take me home! I'm sorry.
Announcer: The surgeons have devised a plan to transform Liz. It will take just 20 days. First, she'll have her face and breast lift. Then when she's recovered, she'll have liposuction on her arms, legs, bottom, and stomach. And finally, she'll see Dr. Dorfman for her new teeth.
It's Liz's big day.
Marc Mani: Good morning, Liz. How are you?
Liz Baverstock: Yep, very calm.
Marc Mani: Doing okay?
Liz Baverstock: Yeah.
Marc Mani: I'm just gonna make some marks on your breasts.
Announcer: First in is breast surgeon, Dr. Marc Mani. He's measuring how far up to move her breasts, marking out the areas of skin to be removed, and the new position for the nipple.
Marc Mani: It's like a dress pattern. All these points are brought together and it lifts your nipple up into a position where it fills that little hole right there.
Liz Baverstock: That's like some weird sort of bondage bra.
Marc Mani: It's like a weird gang tattoo.
Liz Baverstock: Yes.
Paul Nassif: Good morning, Liz.
Liz Baverstock: Good morning.
Announcer: But Liz will have more than one operation today.
Paul Nassif: Okay. How did you speak last night after I spoke to you?
Liz Baverstock: Really well.
Announcer: At the same time as the breast lift, Dr. Nassif will be working on her face.
Paul Nassif: I'm marking some of the areas we're gonna be doing some of the liposuction right now. I marked your smile lines. I marked that little line right in the middle of your forehead that you don't like.
Liz Baverstock: Yep. The one I hate.
Paul Nassif: Now I'm gonna put your bed back.
Announcer: The marks on her face also highlight the areas he'll cut, the direction in which the skin is to be lifted, and the wrinkles that are to be filled in.
Paul Nassif: Perfect. All right, here we go. Are you ready?
Liz Baverstock: Yeah, I'm ready.
Paul Nassif: There we go.
Liz Baverstock: Ahh! My God.
Announcer: Carrying out the operations at the same time means Liz spends a lot less time under general anesthetic. As the anesthesia sends Liz off to sleep, our two surgeons scrub in for the ten-hour operation.
Marc Mani: And I'm gonna be watching Dr. Nassif, the mastery at work.
Paul Nassif: Oh, listen to this, huh?
Announcer: Dr. Nassif begins work on Liz's brow lift.
Paul Nassif: We're starting the brow lift, the dissection . So what we're doing now is we're gonna be using the endoscope. This is basically a small camera. And now what we're gonna do is we're gonna put it right into the dissection site.
Announcer: This is the cutting edge of medicine. Other surgeons would carry out the brow lift by making an incision from one end of the forehead to the other.
Paul Nassif: Now we're moving some of the muscle that is causing her frown line. And that's one of our main concerns that she was worried about. So we're working on them. And we're breaking the plud and we're moving a little bit of the muscle.
Announcer: Cutting the muscle will make Liz's frown line disappear.
Paul Nassif: So we're putting in two sutures on each side, or two stitches on each side.
Announcer: When he finishes, he closed up the incision from the endoscope. Dr. Nassif continues operating on Liz's face, while Dr. Mani starts operating on her breasts.
Marc Mani: I'm etching in my marks that I've already made, because when I inject a local anesthetic in here, it's using a number 15 blade. Everything I'm marking, except for the nipple and areola, are gonna be removed. I'm gonna be cutting the actual skin layer.
Paul Nassif: Okay, we're starting the upper eyelid lift. We're removing the skin. And here's the upper eyelid skin. And now what I'm doing is putting stitches in to close the incision.
Announcer: This may look simple, but his fine stitching technique will leave no visible scars, and makes him one of the best surgeons in the world.
Marc Mani: I'm just taking skin off here.
Announcer: Dr. Mani removes the skin he's marked up from her breasts.
Marc Mani: We try to leave as much of the white tissue down as you can. You do leave the nipple where it was, but you just move it upwards and move the other the rest of the skin around it. Okay.
Announcer: Dr. Mani removes the excess skin from the breast and staples together the remaining skin to create the shape Liz wants. Six hours into the operation, Dr. Nassif moves down the face to start working on her chin.
Paul Nassif: These are instruments to elevate on top of the bone. So we can make a little pocket for the chin implant. We're making it just a track just big enough for the implant.
Announcer: The implant is a single curved piece of plastic that acts like a frame to create a chin.
Paul Nassif: We just placed the implant in.
Marc Mani: I'm checking for symmetry to try to make sure that the nipple heights look even. The markings looked good before surgery, so I'm pretty satisfied.
Announcer: Dr. Mani's final step is to fine stitch the areas held together by the staples. Meanwhile, Dr. Nassif starts on the trickiest part of the operation.
Paul Nassif: So right now we just started doing the lower face-lift on the right side of the face. As you can see, what I'm doing now is I'm lifting up what we call a skin flap. I'm gonna lift everything up this way. Rather than pulling sideways and giving that scared, windblown, frightened, different look, we're gonna lift everything up in a vertical direction.
Okay. So right now I'm trimming that piece of tissue called SMASS. And this I'll be putting in her smile lines. When I grab the tissue, the whole area's gonna go up. This is where we're gonna be tailoring the skin, removing any excess skin. Whoo! I'm sweating. All right, I'm sweating.
Okay. Right now, we're finishing closing up the right side of the face after we do this. Then we'll go ahead and we'll start the other side.
Marc Mani: We're rolling along here. It's about time.
Paul Nassif: Yeah, that's not fair that he's wrapping up and I'm not.
Marc Mani: Elizabeth 's operation went beautifully today. There were no problems. She had excellent spongy breast tissue that makes for a really nice result, so I think they'll hold up beautifully.
Announcer: With the breast lift complete, Dr. Nassif continue with the facial surgery.
Paul Nassif: Okay. So this is my SMASS tissue, which I'll be placing in the smile lines. And this is from our face-lift. Now we're gonna put the SMASS into the nose area.
Announcer: This is a revolutionary technique, transplanting tissue to fill in the lines.
Paul Nassif: Okay. What we're gonna do next is close up the little staples in the hairline. Finisio! Wonderful. Wunderbar.
So I guess about a good nine and a half hours or so, and everything went absolutely fantastic. She's gonna have a great result. I mean, she'll be swollen. Especially, I was able to get her cheek up, including the corner of her mouth, and she will have more swelling in the cheek area. But everything went absolutely beautiful. Beautiful.
Liz Baverstock: No, I'm feeling _____.
Paul Nassif: Yeah?
Liz Baverstock: _____?
Announcer: After the ten-hour operation, Liz returns to the hotel room where she'll get round the clock nursing care.
Liz Baverstock: I feel really strange. I don't feel that I'm not in pain or anything.
Announcer: It's the next morning, and Liz has come for a check-up.
Paul Nassif: Elizabeth ?
Liz Baverstock: Hello.
Paul Nassif: Good morning.
Liz Baverstock: Good morning.
Paul Nassif: How are ya?
Liz Baverstock: _____
Paul Nassif: How are ya feeling?
Liz Baverstock: A little bit nauseous.
Paul Nassif: A little bit nauseous? You know what? That's normal.
Female Speaker: Yeah.
Paul Nassif: That's normal.
Liz Baverstock: That's okay.
Paul Nassif: What's our drainage like?
Announcer: The reality of recovering from a ten-hour operation has set in, and Liz is feeling exhausted.
Paul Nassif: You might have like a little fluid. Are you okay?
Liz Baverstock: Yeah, I think so.
Paul Nassif: Keep breathing. I want you to breathe deep.
Announcer: But Dr. Nassif isn't worried, and is pleased with her recovery.
Liz Baverstock: Oh, that's better.
Paul Nassif: Following a face-lift, you'll start looking good in about two weeks. But you'll look great and be completely healed approximately three months following surgery. I'll see you tomorrow.
Liz Baverstock: Okay.
Paul Nassif: Okay?
Liz Baverstock: Um-hum.
Announcer: Coming up next, after the face and breast lift, Liz goes through the pain barrier to drop a dress size. She's going to have full body lipo while she's awake.
Forty-year-old Liz Baverstock has had $120,000 of surgery, a face and breast lift. The operations have been grueling.
Paul Nassif: How are you feeling?
Liz Baverstock: A little bit nauseous.
Paul Nassif: A little bit nauseous?
Announcer: It's four days after the operation, and Liz prefers to be left on her own to recover.
Liz Baverstock: If I'm ill, I like to deal with things on my own. A lot of the nurses seem to think they should be in here all the time. I don't want it. I don't know if they think I'm depressed or I don't know, just a miserable bitch. But I'm all I'm very happy, actually.
Announcer: Locking herself away seems to have done the trick. Liz is healing fast.
Marc Mani: Liz, hello.
Liz Baverstock: Hi, doctor.
Announcer: Breast surgeon, Dr. Marc Mani, makes a house call. He's come to remove the drains that have been collecting fluid from the operation.
Marc Mani: _____. Yes, I do, too. I think it's time.
Liz Baverstock: Oh, it's okay.
Marc Mani: And a deep breath and hold it.
Female Speaker: Breathe and hold.
Liz Baverstock: Okay.
Female Speaker: How bad was that?
Marc Mani: Yeah, these are easy. These are really not
Female Speaker: Hello?
Liz Baverstock: Is that it? I don't _____ when I was 7/8. Oh, should I _____ just when I was 7/8 I could compare. I'm serious. I'm so pleased. Can I just have a look in the mirror before you wrap me?
Marc Mani: Yeah.
Female Speaker: Yes, go on. Go on.
Liz Baverstock: Fantastic.
Marc Mani: _____. Yes, they look beautiful.
Liz Baverstock: God, yeah. You know your stuff. I used to have to wear a big bra, like padded bras to give me the uplift, but then I used to look like Barbara Winslow . I used to look like I used to be maybe on borrow the Queen Vic. Two parts of Churchill's lovey, and what's up. So that and it just looks like hamcature cause hopefully now I can just look a bit sexy and where me little slashy t-shirts and things.
Marc Mani: _____.
Female Speaker: What _____ like that.
Liz Baverstock: Roughly.
Announcer: It's only two weeks since the operation and her face is healing remarkably fast. But surgeon hasn't just altered her physically. It's dramatically changed her outlook on life.
Liz Baverstock: Before I came away, basically I feel I was just in a bit of a rough. All the business with my marriage as far as I'm concerned is I've sort of coped with that, and I got over it, and I did all the necessary normal functions you need to do. And then it was almost like I don't know what to do next. Basically I need a kick up the ass. And this has done it.
Announcer: It's now time for the final piece of body surgery, liposuction. The invasive nature of the procedure has got Liz worked up.
Liz Baverstock: I've got one more procedure to go which is lipo, which I don't see me cracking myself about. What I want from that is as painless as possible. I want loads of drugs beforehand. I don't want to remember a thing about it. I don't want to be at least a _____.
David Amron: So I'm marking the areas out that I'm going to be liposucting. And everybody has their own way of marking. I find that I mark the whole area out and then put a little
Announcer: As well as removing fat from the stomach, liposuction specialist Dr. David Amron will be working on the thighs, hips, and arms, fat she couldn't lose through exercise alone. Dr. Amron's innovative technique dramatically reduces recovery time and bruising, but involves keeping the patient conscious.
David Amron: So typically I do this procedure with just patients getting a little bit of Valium prior to surgery. I'm gonna start numbing Liz up, putting in the local anesthesia.
Announcer: The first stage in the operation is to apply a local anesthetic to the areas where he will be removing fat.
David Amron: This is gonna take about 40% of the procedure's time is gonna be in putting the local. But again, it's not just a numb, it separates the tissue and it really allows the liposuction to move through faster afterwards.
So why don't you put your leg down, okay, Liz? Liz, relax your leg. Okay? Just relax.
I really feel like you're creating a shape, you're contouring the body permanently. And every stroke you're taking with that cannula instrument is creating a shape. It's like sculpting. You're not just kind of sucking fat out.
I start with blunt, round instruments. So I'm gonna start with this cannula down deep and I'm gonna criss-cross my passes like this. And again, what I'm doing is I'm not sucking fat out as much as I'm tunneling in the fat. And look how nice and yellow that fat is. That's golden yellow fat.
Announcer: As Dr. Amron sucks out the fat, Liz is awake.
David Amron: That's looking real good, though. Here it comes. Ooh.
Announcer: Ninety minutes into the operation and Liz suddenly starts shaking uncontrollably.
David Amron: _____ can you give her something to help her shivering a little bit?
Announcer: This dramatic reaction is a result of a big drop in glucose levels caused by her anxiety over the operation.
Liz Baverstock: The last 15 to 20 minutes of the lipo was hell on earth. It was a total feeling of being helpless. I've got to be totally honest, being in bloody pain. I had the most intense shakes I've ever had in my life. But it sounds weird. I don't even know if I felt cold. But I just know I couldn't stop shaking. And that probably freaked me out not as much as the pain, but almost. And that frightened the shit out of me. It really did.
David Amron: Okay, good. We're done. Yeah, we are done. This is about two liters of fatty material which is about what is that, about four and a half to five pounds of pure fat. But she's gonna get great results.
Liz Baverstock: Didn't enjoy childbirth. Didn't enjoy lipo. If I get fat again, it's just tough. It's the most hideous experience I've ever had.
Announcer: By the following morning, it's a totally different story. She's dropped a dress size and the pain has gone.
David Amron: This is one day later and you can't even find a bruise. But this is looking real good. Let's just kind of take a quick peak at the incisions. And those are healing really well. A little irritation around it. That looks good.
Announcer: It's amazing. Just a day after the most invasive surgery, Liz is not only up and exercising, but she's hardly any bruising on her body.
David Amron: Now what I've done is I've reduced your genetic disproportion. Now at least the areas that have been a little more out of proportion. Now I've really balanced your body, I think, more proportionate. But as you gain and lose weight, you will now do it proportionately. Because what was going on before is you were doing it a little bit disproportionately.
Usually within about four to six weeks, people are getting about 80% of their final improvement, and then over the subsequent six months, it gets better, and better, and better.
Announcer: After being reassured by Dr. Amron, Liz knows she won't see the complete effects of the liposuction immediately. Her figure will improve over the next six months.
Liz Baverstock: It's given me an extra boost, if you like, to use diet and exercise with me.
David Amron: So you haven't worked out in a while, right?
Liz Baverstock: Yeah.
Announcer: Liz is determined never to have lipo again and hits the gym to keep the pounds off.
Male Speaker: Forty-five more seconds.
Liz Baverstock: In one way, it's a good motivation. I should be extremely fit by the end of this.
Announcer: She's changing, but has a long way to go before her transformation is complete.
Liz Baverstock: It's true. It's definitely releasing something. I don't know what the scientific thing is, but it definitely makes you feel good.
Announcer: The next critical stage of her journey is to tackle her teeth. Liz has been embarrassed by them since she was a teenager. Fixing them will really boost her self-confidence.
Bill Dorfman: So are you nervous?
Liz Baverstock: Yep, I am.
Bill Dorfman: Why?
Announcer: The man charged with that task is America 's leading cosmetic dentist, Dr. Bill Dorfman.
Bill Dorfman: Turn right in here.
Announcer: He's going to carry out tens of thousands of dollars worth of dentistry, something Liz could never afford.
Bill Dorfman: All right. This is the zoom gel. We squirt this in here. We just kind of paint this on. And even though a lot of these are going to be getting porcelain veneers, what I want to do is the ones that aren't going to get veneers, we'll just get as white as we can.
Announcer: Teeth whitening turned Dr. Bill Dorfman into a multi-millionaire. He developed the zoom whitening system which is used by most dentists in America . It uses light activated hydrogen peroxide gel to dissolve stains.
Bill Dorfman: Okay. Are you ready? There we go. Okay. I'll see you in 20 minutes.
Announcer: The gel lightens teeth six to ten shades in about an hour.
Bill Dorfman: How are you doing there?
Liz Baverstock: I'm good.
Bill Dorfman: I can tell you're getting really excited. You just hide it well. Oh, my goodness. This is really white. You know what the greatest thing is? Is that this is working. It would be so embarrassing if they didn't get white.
All right. These were the old Liz teeth. Okay? They're already whiter, so we've done that. Now what we're going to do is do four porcelain veneers on these four front teeth on the upper. The lowers are a little bit harder. In order to get these straight, we'll have to do six porcelain veneers, and also I'm going to take a little bit of the gum tissue away here.
Liz Baverstock: So what's actually the veneer? How does that work on the
Bill Dorfman: I'm not going to tell you, Liz.
Liz Baverstock: No
Bill Dorfman: No, no, no, I will. I will.
Liz Baverstock: I need to worry.
Bill Dorfman: You need to worry? It's pretty simple, Liz. It's a little thin shell of porcelain like this. Okay? It doesn't go on the back of the tooth. This is just a facing. Okay? So with this, it allows me to change the position, the shape, and the color of your tooth, and give you just a perfect looking tooth.
Announcer: Veneers will be fitted to the top and bottom teeth. The operation will take four hours and will be carried out under local anesthetic.
Bill Dorfman: And on the lower, you'll get two injections. It will numb your lip just a little bit but you can't prevent that.
Liz Baverstock: Well, does it stop the pain? I don't care.
Bill Dorfman: Liz, there's no pain in American dentistry. Liz, I'm going to just trim the gums a little bit now. You won't feel this. Just to straighten this out a little bit better down here.
Announcer: This lets him fit veneers to the front of her lower teeth so they're all the same height and banish that wonky look.
Bill Dorfman: Okay, Liz. So now we have the shape of your teeth. I'm going to take an impression of it.
Announcer: The mold will refine pre-prepared veneers.
Bill Dorfman: Perfect.
Announcer: It will take a couple of hours for the fine-tuning. He then prepares the upper teeth for the veneers. Liz's Hollywood smile cost $35,000 and is the perfect compliment to show off her new, youthful face.
Bill Dorfman: You're not going to believe we've done the whole thing. Okay? Ready?
Liz Baverstock: Yep.
Bill Dorfman: Take a look.
Liz Baverstock: Oh.
Bill Dorfman: You just smiled.
Liz Baverstock: I'm speechless, and I'm never speechless. It is amazing. Oh, thank you. Thank you.
Bill Dorfman: You're welcome.
Liz Baverstock: I'm delighted. What a Thanksgiving. My mommy's gonna adore you, absolutely.
Bill Dorfman: I usually do better with the moms than the daughters _____.
Liz Baverstock: It changes everything. Cause it really does so if you're conscious of it, you tend to talk like that or it's muffled, or you don't make direct contact with someone. So yeah, I can't wait well, when I get back from work.
Announcer: With her face and body sorted out, it's time to transform her image with some Hollywood style, vital if Liz is going to enhance her sex appeal.
Kendrick Osorio: Hi.
Announcer: L.A. 's fashion guru, Kendrick Osorio, will be giving her a master class in style.
Kendrick Osorio: How are you?
She is not going to find her Prince Charming looking like a tomboy. We need to put some feminine twists in there. This is a great opportunity for Liz. She's got brand new boobs. Well, let's accessorize them. Let's use v-necks. Let's use boat necks. Let's do sharl collars. Let's show them off.
Announcer: Helping him create Liz's new look is leading Hollywood hairdresser Chaz Dean. But first, they're going to drop by her hotel room to carryout a style audit so they can find out what she wears and the scale of their task.
Kendrick Osorio: This has got
Chaz Dean: Aye, frump.
Kendrick Osorio: Frump.
Chaz Dean: That one's just not you.
Kendrick Osorio: This jacket is so boy tommy, I don't know what to do.
Liz Baverstock: What's that mean?
Kendrick Osorio: That's Pepto-Bismol pink.
Chaz Dean: That is.
Kendrick Osorio: That's what that is. We need to bring out what is inside there waiting to get out of there.
Chaz Dean: Did you roll these up or did they come that way?
Kendrick Osorio: These they've got to go! They gotta go!
Chaz Dean: What if _____ hems them?
Kendrick Osorio: No, no, they gotta go. They gotta go!
Chaz Dean: Over the balcony?
Kendrick Osorio: They gotta go.
My first impression of Liz, and you get it immediately, she's slump shouldered. She's high waisted and she's got hips. What you have to do is you have to balance that. You show the legs more. You flutter to the knee. You show the cleavage. You use spaghetti straps. That's what we're gonna do with Liz.
Single: Liz!
Liz Baverstock: Hi.
Single: Hi, girl. How're you doing?
Announcer: And Kendrick's found the perfect designer to show off Liz's new body. Single is a favorite with celebs like Beyonce and Rachel Hunter.
Kendrick Osorio: Galina? Galina, are you here? Hey, girl.
Announcer: Kendrick's only got two days to transform her image. In 48 hours, the new Liz Baverstock will be revealed on the biggest night of her life.
Kendrick Osorio: _____. Look at that res , girl. Give me a twirl. Let me see the back of that dress.
Announcer: Kendrick's chosen a dress for Liz, but he's not going to tell her which one. She's going to have to wait for her big reveal night.
Kendrick Osorio: I want to get a dress that's going to be conducive for you. Because I want you to feel comfortable.
Liz Baverstock: For my eyes only?
Kendrick Osorio: Angel.
Announcer: With Liz's wardrobe taken care of, it's time for our hair and beauty guru to step in. Chaz Dean's client list includes the likes of Halle Berry and Cameron Diaz. It doesn't come cheap, $500 for a cut.
Liz Baverstock: Thank you.
Chaz Dean: Okay. As far as Liz, I believe she looks older than she really is. She's modeled her look after Bon Jovi. We need to leave that to the rocker boys. She should be a sexy, feminine woman. And that's my goal, is to bring that out within her.
We do need to bring this up a bit because the distance is just too great. This is short and this is medium length. So we need to work on that. And just look at yourself now, because I guarantee you the next time you look in this mirror, your skin is going to be alive. There's gonna be color in your skin. And your eyes are really cause your eyes are gorgeous, but they're really gonna stand out.
Announcer: Stage One in Chaz's master plan is to give Liz a new chestnut base color. Then highlights and lowlights can be applied. And next, time to cut that mullet.
Chaz Dean: I'll probably go through with the texturizing shears to eliminate weight and give it more movement, as well. Because you are much very much of a rocker girl. So you like that choppy, messy, disheveled hair. Correct?
Liz Baverstock: Yep.
Announcer: Chaz will apply the finishing touches on Liz's reveal night.
Chaz Dean: Hold on, baby.
Announcer: Coming up next, the brand new Liz Baverstock will be revealed before the gurus who changed her life forever.
Paul Nassif: She looks natural and rejuvenated. Her eyes just beam at you.
Announcer: Tonight's the night that Liz Baverstock's always been dreaming of. The woman she's desperate to be will soon be revealed. It's going to be a big surprise for her. She's not been able to look in a mirror all day.
When Liz came to L.A. , the 40-year-old single divorcee was desperate to revitalize her looks and get her life out of a rut.
Liz Baverstock: Physically, there were things about myself that I've wanted to change for a long while. And I think that will help with confidence, definitely.
Announcer: In just six weeks, a team of the world's leading surgeons have turned back time with $200,000 worth of dramatic and invasive surgery. They've created a new woman.
Marc Mani: Yes, they look beautiful.
Liz Baverstock: Good, yeah. You know your stuff.
Announcer: All day long, a team of stylists have been adding that special Hollywood glitz and glamour to finish the transformation. She's whisked away to a mansion overlooking the City of Angels for the biggest night of her life.
Liz has no idea there's a huge surprise in store. Daughter Becky has flown all the way from Essex to join her mother for the big night. Our gurus are gathering to see their creation revealed. What a transformation in just six weeks.
Paul Nassif: I have to say I think I did great work. I mean, she looks natural and rejuvenated. I mean, she looks about ten years younger. She looks refreshed.
Liz Baverstock: I hope you're not disappointed.
Bill Dorfman: Her eyes just beam at you. And when she smiles, the combination of the eyes and the teeth, unbelievable.
Paul Nassif: How do you feel?
Liz Baverstock: Oh, God. So nervous, you have no idea. No idea.
Male Speaker: Liz, you look incredible.
Announcer: They love her new looks. But is it what she dreamt of?
Liz Baverstock: Oh, God. I don't want to
Male Speaker: You ready?
Liz Baverstock: Oh, no!
Paul Nassif: You can touch it. It won't break.
Liz Baverstock: My eyelashes! Oh, my God! I've never seen myself smile so much in all my life.
Announcer: With $200,000 of surgery and styling, she's gone from being a flabby, prematurely aging couch potato, to a vibrant and dazzling woman.
Liz Baverstock: I got to be totally honest. It wasn't what I expected at all. It's quite sophisticated, really.
Kendrick Osorio: I'm surprised he got you into this.
Liz Baverstock: Oh, my God!
Kendrick Osorio: This is my _____.
Liz Baverstock: But how did how
David Amron: Well, hold on. Let me take a look at you. Your eyes, your eyebrows, those cheeks, the neck, the chin, God you look good.
Liz Baverstock: The eyes.
David Amron: The looks you look incredible.
Liz Baverstock: You are so oh, my God.
David Amron: I mean, of course
Paul Nassif: Your eyes are so uplifting.
David Amron: My goal is to make the teeth work for him, of course, so
Liz Baverstock: I did curse you at times, because I _____ but it's worth it.
David Amron: You've got to take a look at yourself. I mean, it's fabulous.
Female Speaker: Yeah, look at yourself.
David Amron: Look it. Look it. When you get in to see
Liz Baverstock: I've got to stop touching myself.
Oh! Oh-oh, baby!
Announcer: Liz's daughter, Becky, is her final surprise.
Becky: You look great! How sensual you are! Oh, you look _____.
[Applause]
Liz Baverstock: Look at you! Who's looking after the house?
Becky: _____.
Male Speaker: Look at this. Can you believe this is your mother?
[Crosstalk]
Liz Baverstock: Oh, look, now you've found a _____. Oh, I'm so pleased you're here.
Becky: So when are you doing me?
[Crosstalk]
Liz Baverstock: This is the man.
[Crosstalk]
Becky: And you're a lovely man.
Liz Baverstock: Thank you. I look stunning.
David Amron: Oh, you look amazing.
[Crosstalk]
David Amron: You look amazing. Very nice.
Liz Baverstock: Thank you so much.
There's definitely been some lows and there've been some times when I thought why did I apply, but it that all tonight, not just the physical, but genuinely just how I feel and I've met some fantastic people. I've had a great six-week break. It couldn't have been better. It really couldn't.
Announcer: It's four months since Liz came back to Britain . Even now, she can't get over how good the surgery was.
Liz Baverstock: Oh, me boobs. The boobs, yes. Extremely pleased with them. It's given me an extra boost, if you like. I thought yeah, it's worth it. It was absolutely worth it. Dr. Mani. Oh, my God. Drop dead gorgeous.
Marc Mani: Oh, lovely.
Liz Baverstock: It was lovely to have a good looking guy like him actually say, no, your breasts are lovely. They're fantastic. I can do wonderful things with them.
Announcer: The surgery and her experiences in L.A. have kick-started her life.
Liz Baverstock: My problem was I was definitely in a rut. For me, the actual break and meeting different people, as well, was fantastic. I mean, I loved it. It gave me the kick at the backside that I needed. I am back to socializing now. I do keep in touch with people. I do answer the phone instead of letting the answer phone screen everyone and then go, no, I'm not speaking to him.
It's gotten me into, I suppose, good happies, in that respect, to socializing. I quite like the fact that I'm in a quite comfortable place now in my life and that yeah, really, if I'm gonna put any energy expend any energy, it's gonna be in having fun and just sort of catching up on what I think I've put aside for the last year.
Oh, no!
Announcer: Next week, 35-year-old Jane Lowes goes from loathing her body to having a figure that any model would die for.
Jane Lowes: I can honestly say that I do feel sexier. Are they mine? Is this me?
