Maria Menunez: In Hollywood , image is everything, and stars are expected to look absolutely perfect.
Hello, everybody, I'm Maria Menunez for Jann Carl.
Mark Steines: And I'm Mark Steines.
Jamie Lee Curtis has revealed she's had work done. So have Lisa Kudrow and Suzanne Somers.
[Playing Clip]
Jamie Lee Curtis: I've had every cosmetic procedure in small doses.
Mark Steines: Like what?
Jamie Lee Curtis: I've had a little under-eye work done. I had some of that botox put in. I had a little liposuction done one time when I was gonna do a movie, and I had to be in a bathing suit, and I was petrified that people would see that I didn't look the way people kept saying Hard body hot.
Suzanne Somers: I think plastic surgery is great.
Dolly Parton: It bothers everybody to get old, especially women, especially fairly attractive women that start to deteriorate, and you start seeing all those miles on you.
[End of Clip]
Mark Steines: The tabloids claimed Dolly Parton had had a lot of work done, but all she'd tell us is that she was certainly willing.
Narrator: Joanne Pinelli says seeing her image in the computer convinced her of one thing.
Joanne Pinelli: The computer showed me what I'd look like in the future, and I knew that I had to do something about it right away.
Announcer: Entertainment Tonight , the most watched entertainment news program in the world.
Mark Steines: One woman's extreme makeover the face, the eyes, the teeth, and her hair.
Cheri Morgan: This is probably the most traumatic step.
Mark Steines: We're with her every step of the way and wait til you see how her family reacts.
Son 1: Oh my god, wow.
Announcer: Coming up next, a complete makeover.
Cheri Morgan: I thought it was gonna look like a truck ran over my face (Laughter) .
Mark Steines: The woman who did it all her face, her eyes, her neck, and her teeth.
Eve Michaels: What we're interested in is giving them the total makeover.
Mark Steines: We're with her from start to finish, even when her own sons barely recognize her.
Welcome back to Entertainment Tonight , as we investigate the cutting edge plastic surgery in Hollywood .
For Cheri Morgan, a facelift wasn't gonna be enough. She wanted a complete makeover and we mean complete. So she went to see a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon to the stars, and we followed her from start to finish.
Cheri Morgan: Fifty is a scary age for most people.
Mark Steines: Cheri, the mother of three, and a nurse practitioner, is anxious about hitting the big 5-0 and felt that a facelift was a way to erase the years.
Cheri Morgan: I've done some botox for my crow's feet, and a little bit on my forehead, and even a little bit underneath the eyes right here, but this is all that botox can do. Now we need to do something a little more dramatic.
Mark Steines: She went to see Dr. Paul Nassif of Spaulding Drive Cosmetic Surgery in Beverly Hills and allowed ET to document every step of her procedure. First came her consultation.
Dr. Nassif: Cheri here has this little extra skin that you can see right there. And so we're going to make a very small fine incision across the upper eye and remove some of that skin. So we're gonna do my anti-gravity lift, which basically involves lifting up the mid-face up like this to help with these.
Mark Steines: The doctor photographed her face from every angle and assured her that her jowls, tired eyes, and loose neck would be diminished, but that she would not have that overdone look.
Dr. Nassif: When she goes out to see her friends in a couple weeks after she is healed, they're gonna say, You look great. Did you lose some weight? They're hopefully not gonna say, Oh, you had a facelift.
Mark Steines: Next, Dr. Nassif marks her face and the areas he's going to lift. All the work she's going to have done doesn't come cheap.
Dr. Nassif: This procedure that we're doing with Cheri is around approximately $20,000.
Mark Steines: That same day, Cheri was led into the operating room and given anesthesia. The surgery took about seven hours because of the detail given to her sutures.
On day three, Cheri returned to the doctor for her post-op visit.
Dr. Nassif: How many fingers do you see?
Cheri Morgan: One.
Mark Steines: The big moment came where she was unwrapped.
Dr. Nassif: Everything went absolutely perfect. Your cheeks are nice and elevated. Your smile lines look fantastic. Now of course, you're swollen now.
Mark Steines: Around Sherry's ears, the stitches are still visible. And metal staples secure the skin around her hairline. Her eyes are bruised, but not as much as she expected.
Cheri Morgan: I'm pleasantly surprised. I thought I'd see a lot more bruising and more swelling, especially in the neck area. And the neck not only does it not look bruised, but it feels I really don't have any discomfort in my neck in this area whatsoever. A little discomfort up in the face because it's tight, but it's very tolerable, and so I'm very pleased.
Mark Steines: The doctor tells her that the general bruising and swelling should last about two weeks.
Cheri Morgan: I thought it was gonna look like a truck ran over my face (Laughter) . And except for a little bit of numbness but I know that's to be expected, and that will go away it's a little difficult to talk right now. But no, I really feel fantastic.
Mark Steines: On day 13, this is Cheri's face.
CheriMorgan: Two days after surgery, I felt like a new person. I have lots of energy, my mind is clear, and it's been a really nice experience.
Mark Steines: Sherry's once-bruised eyes are already much improved.
Dr. Nassif: This is the incision that's healing, which is almost nearly imperceptible, even though there's a little bit of makeup on. we can see her jaw line better, and now look at that neck.
Mark Steines: But her makeover is just beginning. Next she went to cosmetic dentist, Kourosh Maddahi , for porcelain veneers.
Dr. Maddahi: When Cheri came in, she had misaligned teeth, rotated teeth, and the color of the teeth did not match. She had multiple crowns with different colors. So we thought that we can change all of that in a matter of two visits, and get her the perfect dream smile that she wanted.
Mark Steines: Dr. Maddahi made eight veneers for Sherry, which runs about $1,200 a tooth.
Cheri Morgan: I never had a big toothy smile. I put my hand over my mouth and tried to disguise it.
Mark Steines: The veneers are cemented over her own teeth, which have been slightly filed down. This was Sherry's smile before and after, and she's thrilled.
Cheri Morgan: It feels a little different right now, but it feels good. It was very comfortable. And I think in a couple of days, I should be totally used to the feeling.
Mark Steines: The third step was a new hair color and cut. At Salon Bruso in West Hollywood , Sherry's waist-length hair was lightened and shortened to shoulder length.
Cheri Morgan: So this is probably the most traumatic step. I was panicked. It's a hard change, you know, to get rid of your hair that you've had for so long. But you know, I know need a change. If you're gonna do it, you might as well go ahead and do the whole body, and I'm really happy with it. I love the way it feels.
Mark Steines: Image consultant, Eve Michaels, created Cheri's new look. She works with Sherry's plastic surgeon to help patients make sure that their transformations are not only skin deep.
Eve Michaels: What we're interested in is giving them the total makeover, taking it as far as they wanna go.
Mark Steines: Eve arranged for makeup artist, Lori Rubin , to highlight Cheri's new face with cosmetics.
Lori Rubin: Any patient who asks for a makeover, this is what we do. And we make them look and feel fantastic. I think there's a whole side of Cheri coming out now that she didn't even know was there. Is that true?
Cher iMorgan: That's true.
Mark Steines: A designer wardrobe finished her polished look. and the remarkable before-and-after differences are amazing.
Dr. Nassif: Look what it did!
Cheri Morgan: I know, I know!
Dr. Nassif: Talk about a makeover.
Cheri Morgan: I'm thrilled. I'm amazed at the results, and I can't wait to finish my healing process and enjoy my life.
Mark Steines: That night, Cheri showed off her total makeover to her two sons.
Male Speaker: Okay, so are you guys ready to see your mom?
Sons: Yeah, send her in. Bring her out. Mom? Come on in.
Son 1: Oh my god, wow.
Son 2: Wow.
Cheri Morgan: How do you like it, honey?
Son 1: The hair looks good too.
Cheri Morgan: Do you recognize me?
Son 1: Oh my god, they chopped it off. Yeah, it looks really good.
Mark Steines: Eyewitness news reporter, Miriam Hernandez has talked with the plastic surgeon to the stars about the secrets behind those extreme makeovers. She joins us live now with more Miriam.
Miriam Hernandez: Well, Mark, tonight a lot of people are looking in their mirrors and wondering, What can be done? Well, tonight, we take you to Beverly Hills and show you some of the possibilities.
From down and tired to fresh and happy, Surgeon to the Stars, Dr. Paul Nassif, says the goal today is a look that is non-surgical.
Dr. Nassif: The patients now are more apt to have plastic surgery because they still look natural, but rejuvenated.
Miriam Hernandez: One example, retired CEO Bob Stoltz .
Bob Stoltz: My neck was getting more and more saggy, you know, the turkey gobble kind of a thing?
Miriam Hernandez: Three months after the surgery, see if you can find the incisions.
Bob Stoltz: And __________ all the way down to here, and then they go around the back and up probably about a half to three-quarters of the way behind the ear and then into the scalp.
[Voiceover]
Miriam Hernandez: Stoltz is one of many converts telling his success story at the Mosaic Hotel at a seminar featuring Dr. Nassif's work.
Eve Michaels: We're gonna talk about the secrets tonight the real scoop, the dirt, the everything about the extreme makeovers.
[Voiceover]
Miriam Hernandez: Eve Micheals' makeover also involved a subtle approach.
Dr. Nassif: She had her nose done, a jowl implant right here, and a lower facelift.
Miriam Hernandez: Michaels does not hide the fact she turns 50 this summer. But makeovers are not just for baby-boomers. This patient is in her early 30s.
Dr. Nassif: She looks very old with her eyes the upper eyelids. And once we rejuvenate the upper eyelids, she looks completely different.
Miriam Hernandez: Many solutions for many age groups. Bob Stoltz now is a very happy 60 years old.
Bob Stoltz: People who don't know exactly what I did just think that I look good.
Miriam Hernandez: Before you get started, you better take a realistic look at your pocketbook. The procedure for Mr. Stoltz is estimated anywhere from $8,000-$10,000.
Reporting live, Miriam Hernandez, ABC 7. Now back to all of you.
Mark Steines: Beverly Hills facial, plastic, and reconstructive surgeon, Paul Nassif, says he has seen a large increase in the number of men exploring surgical options to improve their appearance.
Dr. Nassif: They start off with something like botox. And then the next procedure they get, which is very popular, is having something to do with eye rejuvenation.
Mark Steines: That's why Gary Marshall has come to see the doctor. A successful character actor, Gary has a role in George Clooney's upcoming film, Intolerable Cruelty . Gary thinks he needs a brow lift, and to have the excess skin and fat removed from his eyelids.
Gary Marshall: I'm not sure that it's as obvious to other people as it is to me.
Dr. Nassif: You will have a small incision right in the crease of your eyelid.
Mark Steines: The doctor is concerned that a brow lift may alter Gary 's look too radically. He recommends that Gary consider surgery on his eyelids and under the eyes.
Dr. Nassif: By going inside the eye, okay, no visible incision at all. We're going to remove some fat over here, take this existing fat here, move it from the area where it's bulging, and put it in the area where it's hollow.
Gary Marshall: Realistically, what the doctor is thinking it's going to do is make it a better-looking Gary not a different looking Gary, a better-looking, rested Gary that does this less.
