Fraxel is the most popular laser treatments available for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, sun or aging spots, or texture like acne or surgical scarring, large pores, or skin crepiness and oiliness. By using controlled laser heating, Fraxel treatments naturally stimulating your skin’s ability to stimulate collagen and rejuvenate itself. It leaves your skin looking smoother, softer, clearer, and refreshed, in just a few hours and for months after.

How It Works

Fraxel is the "gold standard" of non-ablative fractional lasers. During the procedure the laser energy safely causes microscopic holes in the superficial and deep layers of the skin, stimulating you own skin’s stem cells to produce collagen. Your body works naturally to build new fresh skin, repair sun damage, improve pigmentation, and improve scarring. Skin is also instantly tightened and leaves your skin looking fresh, bright, and rejuvenated.

The fractional technique of creating microscope zones of damage rather than removing entire layers allows for a relatively painless procedure and very quick recovery without skin burning or scabbing. There is minimal downtime required since the risks associated with other more aggressive laser treatments are no longer an issue. Most patients are ready to return to their normal activities right after the treatment with only a small amount of redness and swelling that is unnoticeable.

After a series of Fraxel treatments, you’ll find your fine lines and wrinkles noticeably improved. Dark spots from aging or sun damage spots or hyperpigmentation from melasma will be reduced or even removed. The skin’s texture will be strikingly smoother and softer with noticeably less pores and oiliness. Bumpy areas like acne scarring or dilated oil glands will also be smoothed out, creating an even texture. Crepiness of the eye area or cheeks will appear tighter and smoother, almost completely eliminated.

Fraxel Laser FAQ

How many Fraxel treatments will I need?

It all depends on your treatment goals and individual aesthetic skin care plan. For patients seeking minor improvements in overall skin texture and tone, a single treatments may be enough to achieve results. For most patients, however, a series of three to six treatments may be needed for improvement. Long-term maintenance with one or two treatments a year is always recommended.

How often can I repeat treatments?

Since much of the benefit of the Fraxel laser comes during the healing process, it’s important to give sufficient time between treatments for the skin to regenerate the maximum amount of new collagen and remove abnormal pigmentation. For most patients, this will require about three to six week internals between treatments.

How long will my results last?

The treatment results are permanent in that the lines and spots removed by Fraxel will not return. However, it will not prevent future aging To maintain your new fresh, young, smoother look, it’s important to continue proper skin care habits after your treatment and maintain with future Fraxel treatments or other skin care treatments recommended by the physician.

Does Fraxel have any side effects?

Many patients will look and feel as though they have sunburn for a day or two, but the redness and tenderness goes away rapidly, often within hours. In some cases, there may also be mild swelling or a small amount of skin flaking that will be evident for up to a week. Rarely, there are temporary pigment changes that are almost never permanent. With any laser treatments, there is always a small risk of skin burning and or laser-induced pigmentation changes, but this is extremely uncommon when treated by those experienced.

Can the Fraxel laser be used to treat stretch marks?

It depends on the individual case, but Fraxel laser can be used on stretch marks with good results. Stretch marks are caused by high stress on the skin that breaks the collagen and elastin fibers that hold the skin together tightly. Laser treatments can correct that by stimulating the development of new collagen and elastin, leading to narrower stretch marks that are more tight and smooth. In most cases noticeable improvement can be seen but will take multiple sessions and may need to be combined with other treatments and proper skin care.
