Laser Hair Removal uses short bursts of high intensity light to heat and damage hair follicles.

When the follicle is damaged the hair, if it comes back at all, will return thinner and lighter. A series of 6 treatments or more is generally sufficient to lead to a permanent reduction in hair and often permanent hair removal. Patients seeking permanent hair removal should inquire about treatment packages that will assure the successful treatment of all the follicles in the desired area.

Treatments will vary in length depending on the size of the area being treated, the pigment of the hair and the skin and the laser being used. Darker hair on light skin is often most responsive to laser hair removal and patients lucky enough to have dark hair and light skin may require fewer treatments. Treatments can be completed in as little as 20-30 minutes when tending to small areas such as the moustache or under arm. Areas such as the legs, back, chest and arms will take longer and may require a session of an hour or more. Patients will be evaluated on an individual basis and offered the best options for their skin type, hair type and the area of treatment.

Treatments are generally well tolerated and most patients liken the sensation to a pinch or the snap of a rubber band. It is commonly said that if one can manage the discomfort of waxing, one can easily manage the discomfort of laser hair removal. For patients with highly sensitive skin, topical pain relieving cream is available to be applied before treatments to ease the discomfort. When applied 20-30 minutes before treatment, patients will reduce feeling in the skin to a level that is easily manageable by the majority of patients.

Laser Hair Removal will provide patients with a substantial reduction in hair after the first session and lasting or permanent results after a full course of treatments. Patients may opt to have hair removal touch up treatments after 9 months to 1 year, to remove any excess hair growth.
