Daily application of a sunscreen is essential not only to avoid skin cancer, but also to prevent unwanted signs of aging such as wrinkles, and sun spots from occurring, according to Dr. Nassif.
So keep your skin protected by using a sunscreen with at least an SPF of 15 or higher for daily use and SPF 30 or higher when you are out in the sun for longer periods. Always reapply your sunscreen every hour and a half even if it is waterproof.
Another tip, check your labels to make sure it has one of these ingredients listed as active to ensure adequate protection from both UVB and UVA rays: avobenzone (also known as Parsol 1789 or butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane), titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, Mexoryl SX, or Helioplex.
Allergan, which is the maker of Botox, has some new anti-aging products called Prevage and Spa Vivite. However, products with a retinoic acid or Retin-A are going to help with lines and wrinkles. SPF 15 sunscreen is also essential for all skin types.
SUMMER WEDDING OR GRADUATION? GET READY FOR THE BIG DAY NOW!
What is your skin’s history?
Do you have problematic skin?
What is the climate like where the event will take place?
Makeup is only as good as the skin it covers. Take time in the months leading up to the event to get your skin in shape. You should avoid having a facial, microdermabrasion, or peel within ten days to two weeks of the event, especially if you have not had such procedures performed in the past. The last thing you want to deal with are unwanted reactions.
The sooner you consult with your skin specialist, the quicker your skin can be picture perfect for your special day! COntact Aubrie Cook at Spalding Drive Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology for more information. Or call (310) 275-2467.
According to Dr. Nassif, Botox is great in helping to soften the platysmal banding or the muscle lines that run vertically up and down the neck. These muscles start to hang starting around the age of 40 and above. Sometimes, when you have horizontal creases in the neck Botox can be used to soften these lines.
All types of injectables, whether it is Radiesse, Restylane or Juvederm can be used in the chin or the pre-jowl area, which is just adjacent to the chin. Injectables also can be used in the cheek area. In most cases the treated areas will look good in about 24 hours.
Pouty lips or thin lips, which do people prefer? While this might vary, the ratio of the lips determines what looks the best. A ratio of about 1:2 between the size of the upper lip and the lower lip is what helps balance the face. Angelina Jolie has a great example of perfectly balanced, pouty lips, with her lower being about twice the size of her upper lip.
“Radiesse is an injectable made from calcium hydroxyapatite. Radiesse can be injected into facial wrinkles and nasiolabial folds. However, if it is not performed properly, Radiesse can have a firm and bumpy result. This is an injectable that you have to be pretty experienced with injecting to prevent these complications,” according to Dr. Nassif.
Platelet gel is another alternative to increase healing and decrease bruising. During surgery, platelet gel is made from the patient’s own blood. It is then applied to bone grafts and soft tissue grafts as a stabilizer throughout the rhinoplasty procedure. The gel is also used to accelerate the healing of the soft tissue. There are some additional medications or procedures that can be performed to increase healing. But what also helps someone healing is a dissection technique that is careful of the tissues of the nose.
There are all type of fillers that are not used in America that are approved in Europe and possibly Canada. These primitive fillers can cause future problems such as granulomas or abnormalities and can be very difficult to remove.
Dr. Nassif only recommends FDA approved fillers that are available in the United States. Even with these types of fillers there can be complications. So, you have to be very careful.
According to Dr. Nassif, “I’m not familiar with the Bio-Alcamid filler, but from what I read this is a permanent filler that can be used to correct small or large deficits of soft tissue. This filler can be used in the lips, face or in the body. You may be able to get this filler removed depending on where it’s located.”
