Why an Eyelift Does So Much For Your Appearance
Throughout literature, you’ll find thousands, if not millions, of references to the eyes and what they tell us. Eyes are the windows to the soul, showing what we’re thinking and feeling even when we aren’t conscious of it. The older we get, the more expressive we become. Unfortunately, as you get older your eyes may have a harder time showing your emotions. That’s because aging makes your eyes look older and more tired, even if you aren’t necessarily feeling that way. An eyelift brightens your eyes by improving how they look.
How Aging Affects Your Eyes
The skin around your eyes is much thinner than around other areas of your face and body, which makes it vulnerable to the effects of aging before any other feature. Aging causes your skin lose collagen and elastin fibers that are responsible for keeping your skin firm and tight. When this happens around your eyes, the skin becomes looser and more prone to wrinkles. Time and gravity exacerbate the problem by pulling down on your skin to make it look saggy and even looser. This can happen all around your eyes, including the eyelids. Some eyelids even start to droop, which makes you look constantly tired and can even impair your vision.
How an Eyelift Works Against the Effects of Aging
Lift surgery in general involves improving an area of the body by lifting and tightening the skin so that the area appears better contoured without a bunch of excess skin. An eyelift does the same thing, but specifically with the skin around your eyes and eyelids.
An upper eyelift deals specifically with the upper eyelid and area under the eyebrow, while a lower eyelift focuses on the lower eyelid and the area under the eyes. The doctor makes the incisions in places that are not conspicuous and then works to remove and reposition fat, tighten muscles, and carefully trim away any excess skin.
Once all the necessary internal work is complete, the incisions can be closed and sealed with sutures or surgical tape. Recovery from the procedure will involve some swelling and a little soreness, both of which are very manageable with ice packs and pain medications. Your doctor will provide you with a complete set of post-surgery instructions and guidelines to make yours as smooth as possible. Total recovery from an eyelift takes about a month.
Getting Your Eyelift Surgery
There are different ways to perform an eyelift – some patients need only an upper eyelift while others only need a lower eyelift. Some need both and some might even need additional procedures to get the full effect. When you have a consultation with a doctor, they will be able to determine the best course of action to help make your eyes look brighter, improving the look of your entire face.
