Smartlipo Smart Choice

Why Smartlipo is the Smart Choice

Why Smartlipo is the Smart Choice

Liposuction has been around for a long time but the procedure has experienced a number of advancements in the past decade or so. Plastic surgery offices can now offer multiple types of liposuction, including traditional liposuction, tumescent liposuction, and ultrasonic assisted liposuction. One of the newest techniques in liposuction is called Smartlipo, which is quickly making its way into cosmetic surgery practices around the country, including Spalding Drive Plastic Surgery.

How Smartlipo Works

Smartlipo is similar to ultrasonic assisted liposuction, which uses ultrasound energy pulses to break apart and liquefy fat cells. In Smartlipo, however, a laser is used to emit a wavelength that accomplishes the same effect. Once the cells have been liquefied, they can be easily removed through a small hollow tube inserted into a very tiny incision. It’s about as close to nonsurgical liposuction as you can get.

So if Smartlipo does the same thing as ultrasonic assisted liposuction, what makes it better?

Smartlipo Improves Your Skin

While each type of liposuction is capable of removing fat from your body, most can’t improve the look of your skin. Your skin has to stretch and expand to accommodate the extra fat cells. When that fat is removed, your skin doesn’t necessarily shrink back to what it was before. This can leave you with areas of loose and saggy skin.

The laser used in Smartlipo not only removes fat, it also boosts your production of collagen, an important substance used to keep your skin smooth and tight. The collagen boost will help to improve the look of your skin so that it looks and feels better after the fat is removed. Plus, Smartlipo also causes the tiny blood vessels that provide nutrients to your fat cells to coagulate, which prevents your skin from dimpling.

Smartlipo Reduces Your Risk of Complications

Smartlipo is also safer for you in several respects. First, you won’t have to be put under for the procedure. Smartlipo uses a combination of local anesthesia and tumescent anesthesia around the target area so you can stay awake throughout the entire process. Because the laser causes your tiny blood vessels to coagulate, there will be less fluid buildup around your body, reducing the amount of swelling and bruising.

Unlike ultrasonic assisted liposuction, Smartlipo’s laser comes in three different wavelengths that can be monitored and catered to the individual patient. Plastic surgeons can keep track of the laser’s temperature and adjust the wavelength to keep them from overtreating or injuring their patients. This allows the surgeons to better help their patients without additional risk of complications.

Smartlipo Shortens Your Recovery Time

Plastic surgery patients often experience swelling and bruising when they have a surgical procedure performed. This happens because your blood vessels are broken or damaged during surgery, causing blood to pool under your skin. Your body also responds to injury or trauma by rushing lots of fluid to the area to start the healing process. The more swelling and bruising you have, the longer it can take you to completely heal.

With Smartlipo, however, the amount of swelling and bruising is reduced, which also reduces the total recovery time. The recovery time is also shortened because you won’t have to come out of anesthesia when the procedure is over. Your initial recovery with Smartlipo will be about two days, compared to other types of liposuction which can run up to a week or two.

Where Smartlipo Works

Right now, Smartlipo can be used on a number of different areas of your body, including your neck and face. Since the incisions are so small and the laser works well where the skin layer is thinner, it can conceivably be performed just about anywhere on your body.
