Water Assisted Liposuction Work

How Does Water Assisted Liposuction Work?

How Does Water Assisted Liposuction Work?

There are a lot of different types of liposuction out there – some probably have you scratching your head in confusion. Spalding Drive Plastic Surgery offers several liposuction procedures, including water assisted liposuction (also known as BodyJet or AquaShape). What is it that distinguishes this type of liposuction from other types and how does it work?

The Procedure

Liposuction at its most basic is a method of breaking up and removing unwanted fat from your body. There isn’t a whole lot of difference in how the actual fat is removed, however. The difference in liposuction procedures primarily comes from how the fat is broken up beforehand. Traditional liposuction involves manually dislodging the fat while Liposonix uses ultrasonic energy to liquefy it. Water assisted liposuction uses a jet of water to break apart the fat cells.

The jet of water is aimed from a special wand that is placed just below the surface of the skin through a number of small incisions. The water pulses out in a small stream through the fat cells and causes them to dislodge from each other. The cells are then removed from the body with the same wand through the same incision.

What Makes Water Assisted Liposuction Better Than Other Liposuction Procedures?

Every type of liposuction has its own unique advantages and benefits, and water assisted liposuction is no exception. One of the most noticeable benefits to choosing this type of liposuction is less pain and discomfort compared to other liposuction procedures. The jets of water are much gentler on your body, which results in less bruising and swelling when you’re finished.

The water is even gentle on your fat cells. That sounds like a strange benefit – wouldn’t you rather have your fat cells destroyed? Other types of liposuction can accomplish that, but keeping your fat cells intact can be a good thing. If it’s harvested properly, fat cells can be used in procedures like Brazilian butt lifts and facial fat transfers to help your face and body look even more amazing. Because the water assisted liposuction dislodges the fat rather than destroying it, the fat can be harvested without needing an additional procedure.

Since the procedure is kinder to your body than other types of liposuction, the recovery is also much faster. You might be a little sore for the first couple of days and you’ll need to wear a compression garment to protect your body while it heals, but you should be up and moving again with no problems after that. You could even resume more strenuous activities in as little as two weeks.

Is This Liposuction Procedure for You?

Just like the other types of liposuction, water assisted liposuction is not designed to help you lose a significant amount of weight. So if you are overweight or are looking to lose more than 10-15 pounds, liposuction in any form isn’t going to help you. However, if you are in reasonably good shape and are interested in getting better contouring for your body, liposuction is definitely something to consider. Water assisted liposuction would be a great choice for you if you are also interested in using the fat from your liposuction procedure around other areas of your body or on your face. Even if you don’t want to get a fat transfer procedure, water assisted liposuction is a great option if you are short on time or are just looking to give your body better definition without a lot of pain or discomfort.
